Sexual Assault Prevention Online Course for Students

 

By completing Cultivating Awareness & Prevention of Sexual Violence, students will understand: 

  • Their role in preventing sexual assault, relationship violence and stalking;
  • How to respond supportively if someone discloses an experience of sexual misconduct to them;
  • The University’s policies prohibiting sexual misconduct; and
  • Available campus resources for students related to sexual misconduct.

Who is required to complete the online training, and by when?

All incoming University of Minnesota students are required to complete this training.  The enrollment and due dates, which depend upon the campus and student type, can be found in the table below.

The training will be assigned via Training Hub and you will receive an email, to your UMN email account, with instructions for completion once you have been enrolled.

How do I access and complete the online training?

Incoming students will be enrolled in the course on the schedule above. Once enrolled follow these steps to access and complete the training: 

Check Your UMN Email

  1. Look for an email from [email protected] with instructions and click on the direct link to your course in Training Hub.
  2. Log in to Training Hub with your University of Minnesota username and password.
  3. You will be taken directly to your course in Training Hub where you will click the “Launch Canvas Course” box.

If you are unable to find your email, you can access the course directly through Training Hub. 

  1. Go to Training Hub (https://training.umn.edu/).
  2. Log in with your University of Minnesota username and password.
  3. Click on "My Training"
  4. Find "Cultivating Awareness & Prevention of Sexual Violence."
  5. Click the “Launch Canvas Course” box to begin your course. 

To complete the course:

  • Set aside 60 minutes to complete the course. You can start the training and finish it at a later time without losing your progress.
  • The training consists of a brief initial survey, five modules, a final quiz, and a final survey. Complete all of these activities.
  • Click the maroon "Record Completion" button
  • You'll receive a confirmation email upon completion from Training Hub

What if I find the content distressing?

If you believe you may have difficulty completing this course because you have been negatively impacted by sexual assault, relationship violence, or stalking, you may contact The Sexual Misconduct Prevention Program at [email protected] to request an exemption or alternative format. Please note that you do not need to disclose details of your experiences in order to receive an exemption.

What if I've completed similar training before?

All incoming students are required to complete the training at the start of their first term. 

  • If you’ve previously completed this training on one UMN campus and have transferred to a different campus within the system, you will be required to complete the training again.  The course includes campus-specific information and resources.
  • If you are a new graduate student, but completed this training or something similar as an undergraduate, you will be required to complete it again.
  • All University employees, including student employees, are required to complete a separate sexual misconduct prevention and response training for employees, titled “Employee Sexual Misconduct, Discrimination, and Retaliation Prevention Training.” Students who are also employees are required to complete both trainings.
